The Social Media Lab is an eligible host institution for the Global Affairs Canada 2019-2020 Student Exchange Program (SEP) for Latin American and Caribbean citizens wishing to study, conduct research or professional development in Canada. Please find and review the program that is applicable to you from the four available choices. 

  1. Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) offers funding for student researchers who remain registered as full-time students at their home universities.
  •  $7,200 CAN for college, undergraduate or graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a minimum of four months or one academic term of study or research; or
  •  $9,700 CAN for graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a period of five to six months of study or research.
  •  Eligible countries are from the following regions: Caribbean, Central America, South America and Mexico.
  1. Canada-CARICOM Leadership Scholarships Program offers funding for student researchers who remain registered as full-time students at their home universities.
  •  $7,200 CAN for college, undergraduate or graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a minimum of four months or one academic term of study or research; or
  •  $9,700 CAN for graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a period of five to six months of study or research; or
  •  $14,700 CAN for undergraduate and college students for a period of eight months of study or research.
  •  Eligible countries: CARICOM (Caribbean community)
  1. Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program offers funding for visiting research faculty who retain their positions at their home universities.
  •  $2,700 CAN for faculty members for two to three weeks of course work or research as part of their professional development;
  •  $2,700 CAN for international directors, managers or administrators for two to three weeks of course work, or for a practicum in the area of internationalization of post-secondary institutions or student mobility as part of their professional development; or
  •  $9,700 CAN for faculty members for five to six months of study or research at the graduate level.
  •  Eligible countries: CARICOM (Caribbean community)
  1. Canada-Chile Leadership Exchange Scholarship offers funding for student researchers who remain registered as full-time students at their home universities.
  •  $7,200 CAN for college, undergraduate or graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a minimum of four months or one academic term of study or research; or
  •  $9,700 CAN for graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a period of five to six months of study or research.
  •  Eligible country: Chile.

Once you have confirmed that you are eligible for one of the four available programs, please get in touch with us and we will work with you to develop a mutually acceptable social media related research proposal as part of your application.

Special Notice

The deadline to apply to all programs is March 21, 2019, and the internal deadline for submission of all material to Toronto Metropolitan International is Thursday March 7, 2019. All successful participants must arrive in Canada for the uptake of their award between June 1, 2019 and February 1, 2020.
