The hackathon is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the <a href=\"https:\/\/socialmedialab.ca\/web\/\"><strong>Social Media Lab<\/strong><\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torontomu.ca\/tedrogersschool\/\"><strong>Ted Rogers School of Management<\/strong><\/a>. All students are invited to participate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hackathon is designed to explore the possibility of using AI technology to fight the spread of misinformation and disinformation on social media. Students who participate in the hackathon will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI technology like the OpenAI API and make a difference in the fight against misinformation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Start by forming your team ASAP and submitting your proposal by March 10, 2023. Upon registration each team will be granted access to CAD$100 in OpenAI API tokens for prototyping and testing. There are great prizes up for grabs &#8211; $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second and $500 for third!<span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: initial;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">Interested students can get more information and register by visiting <\/span><a style=\"font-size: revert;\" href=\"https:\/\/socialmedialab.ca\/web\/events\/hackathon\/\"><strong>https:\/\/socialmedialab.ca\/web\/events\/hackathon\/<\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your AI solution&nbsp;<strong>could take one of the following forms<\/strong>&nbsp;(among others):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Web or mobile application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social media bot<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Browser extension<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stand-alone script<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analytical dashboard&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interactive visualization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For an example of a possible solution, check out our <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/factcheckassistant.socialmedialab.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>OpenAI-powered Fact Checking Assistant<\/strong><\/a>. The lab studies how social media is changing the ways in which people and organizations communicate, disseminate information, conduct business and form communities, and how these changes impact society.
