Network Theorist Barry Wellman Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oxford Internet Institute

Barry WellmanIt is our pleasure to announce that the lab’s long time collaborator Dr. Barry Wellman (University of Toronto) has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) at the University of Oxford. This award is in recognition of Dr. Wellman’s extraordinary record of scholarship in Internet research and social network theory.

This is a well-deserved and well-earned honor. As a researcher, Dr. Wellman is incredibly insightful and prolific, drawing on a wealth of knowledge that can only come from a lifetime of devotion to understanding social networks. Dr. Wellman has written or co-authored over 300 articles, chapters, reports and books. He has contributed greatly to the development of the theory of social network analysis. Helping us to understand how social networks work in all of their various manifestations: community, communication, computer, and social. As a teacher and collaborator, Dr. Wellman is intellectually generous; always ready to lend his expertise where it is most needed.
