SciVerse WebApp Concept Design Competition (October 25, 2011)

WHAT

The Social Media Lab at the Dalhousie School of Information Management is pleased to announce the first ever SciVerse WebApp Concept Design Competition to find the next great web application for Elsevier’s new SciVerse search and

Sponsor of the Event

discovery platform.  Elsevier is offering $3,000 in prizes and challenging Dalhousie students to help more than 15 million researchers, medical professionals, librarians and students navigate scientific content, improve scientific search and discovery, visualize sophisticated data in more insightful and attractive ways and stimulate collaboration.

To participate in this competition, you have to:

  1. Come up with an original idea for a new web application for Elsevier’s new SciVerse search and discovery platform,
  2. Submit a short written description of your idea,
  3. Create a poster to showcase your idea and
  4. Present it at the SciVerse WebApp Concept Design Competition on October 25th, 2011. 

No programming skills are required for this competition, just your creativity!

WHO

All Dalhousie students are welcome to participate, in groups of 2 to 4 students.

WHEN & HOW

Step 1: Register your team at http://bit.ly/rdhc4H

Step 2: Submit a short written description of your idea via the online SciVerse Application Concept Description Form by Oct. 18, 2011, 23:59

Step 3: Create and email a pdf version of your competition poster (36’’ x 24’’) to sciverseapp@gmail.com by Oct. 18, 2011, 23:59 

  • Download Suggested Poster Template (Powerpoint, ~200Kb)
  • We will print your poster and have it ready for presentation at the Design Competition
  • The poster must include a rough “sketch” of the proposed app (What will it look like?)

Step 4:   Present your poster at the SciVerse Web App Concept Design Competition in the Dalhousie University Student Union, Room 224 on Oct. 25, 2011, 1-3pm

  • At least one team member must attend the Design Competition and represent your group
  • The winners of the competition will be announced on the SocialMediaLab.ca website and will also be notified via email on Nov. 1, 2011.
