Dr. Raquel Recuero is an Associate Professor at the Communication and Linguistics Department at Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPEL/Brazil) and at the Post Graduate program of Communication and Information at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS/Brazil). Her research has centered on social media and politics, with a particular focus on online discourse and online gender violence. She is the coordinator of MIDIARS, the Media, Discourse and Social Networks Research Group at UFPEL.
Dr. Recuero is the author of several books, including “Redes Sociais na Internet” (Online Social Networks, Porto Alegre, Sulina, 3rd edition). She is on the editorial committee of several journals including Social Media + Society, Brazilian Journalism Research and others. Dr. Recuero has also conducted research for several companies such as Google, MySpace.
While at the Social Media Lab, she will be working with Dr. Anatoliy Gruzd and other members of the Ryerson Social Media Lab on a project examining fake news, filter bubbles and political conversations in the upcoming the 2018 Brazilian Presidential elections.
