Social Media for Social Change Case Competition

bdu-logo-leftWe are pleased to join IBM and IBM Big Data University to lend support to ‘Social Media for Social Change Case Competition‘, an initiative of the Ryerson Hub for Business Analytics (RHBA). RHBA is a student-led initiative at the Ted Rogers School of Management. RHA is the brainchild of undergraduate students James Tieu, Ryan Seto and Samuel Lai. RHBA’s aim is to provide data analytics training to undergraduate students at Ryerson University.

A part of this case competition, students will use IBM Watson Analytics to analyze Social Media Data about Drake, Taylor Swift’s, and J. Cole’s to determine their suitability to be an official spokesperson for the UN.  The students must use the data to convince a panel of judges which of the three entertainers can best drive awareness about the United Nation’s 13 Sustainable Development goals.

IMG_0143Jenna Jacobson, a researcher and project manager at the Social Media Lab, will be joining the competition as a judge.

Date: Saturday, November 7th, 10:30am – 7:00pm

Prizes:

  • 1st Place:  $500 & dinner with the VP of Watson Analytics
  • 2nd Place: $300
  • 3rd Place:  $200

Requirements: None! Just an interest to learn about analytics and work with data!

Task: Use social media analytics to measure Drake, Taylor Swift, and J. Cole’s marketability to be an official spokesperson for the UN!

Teams: Make your own, or we’ll help you create one!  Each team should have 4 to 5 members.
